Envisioning a More Connected Teton Valley

Teton Valley is changing. Rising costs are making it harder to create and sustain the places that bring people together. At the same time, opportunities for meaningful social connection and shared community experiences are increasingly important. For over a decade, Teton Rock Gym showed us how a shared space could become much more than a place for recreation. It became a place to make friends, feel a sense of belonging, and connect with others.

Now we’re exploring something bigger: a welcoming, affordable community hub that brings together people, organizations, and activities in one thoughtfully designed space. We envision a place that supports existing community initiatives, encourages collaboration, and creates opportunities for meaningful connection. A community living room for Teton Valley.

Why Community Space Matters

Connection & Belonging

Long winters, geographic isolation, remote work, and changing social habits can make it difficult to build meaningful relationships. We need more welcoming third places where people can gather informally, encounter their neighbors, and feel part of a community.

Affordability & Access

Rising land values, construction costs, and rents are making it increasingly difficult to create and sustain community spaces in Teton Valley. As development becomes more expensive, accessible places that serve everyday community life risk being left behind.

Supporting Local Organizations

Teton Valley is home to organizations doing meaningful work, but many face limitations in space, facilities, and resources. Shared infrastructure and stronger partnerships could help them expand their impact without each having to shoulder the full cost of doing so independently.

A Community Living Room

Imagine a place where you can stop in without an agenda, run into a neighbor, discover something new, or simply enjoy being around other people.

We’re envisioning a welcoming community hub designed to facilitate informal social interactions. A place with comfortable gathering areas, recreation, learning opportunities, and activities for all ages. A place where participation doesn’t always require a membership, reservation, or purchase.

Thoughtful design and year-round programming could make the space lively across seasons, with room for spontaneous encounters as well as organized activities indoors and out.

An Ecosystem of Support

Teton Valley is home to organizations, businesses, and individuals doing meaningful work. We see an opportunity to bring some of those efforts together, creating a place where collaboration happens naturally and resources go further.

Shared facilities, affordable workspaces, complementary programming, and flexible gathering areas could help organizations expand their reach while reducing the costs of operating independently.

We envision a space that builds upon existing initiatives rather than competing with them. A place where recreation, education, health, wellness, and community services can intersect, creating new opportunities for both organizations and residents.

The right combination will depend on community needs, partnerships, and financial feasibility. Our goal is to develop a model that is both vibrant and sustainable.

Help Shape the Project

This vision is already taking shape through conversations with community members, local organizations, existing partners, and mental health professionals. Those discussions have reinforced what we’ve learned through eleven years of serving Teton Valley: our community has needs that extend well beyond recreation.

We see the potential for a thoughtfully designed community hub to bring together organizations serving children and families, supporting mental health, providing educational opportunities, and creating accessible spaces for people to gather, helping them expand their reach and better serve the community.

We’re still in the early stages of exploring properties, partnerships, programming, and financial feasibility. But we’re approaching this work with experience, community relationships, and a growing understanding of where we might make a meaningful difference.

We want to hear from you. Whether you represent an organization, have identified an unmet need, or have ideas about what our valley is missing, your perspective can help shape what comes next.
